Combing data from 2 cells into 1

    Excel XP

I have phone numbers combined in cells in columns A and B. The area codes are in column A and the rest of the phone numbers are in column B. Column C is blank

    Example:

    ............Column A .....Column B ..... Column C

    Row 1 ...(860)........... 123-4567

I need to combine both the area code and phone number in A & B into Column C.

    ............Column A .........Column B............ Column C

    Row 1....... (860) .........123-4567.......... (860) 923-4567

It does not matter if the data remains in Columns A and B or not.

Is there a formula I can set of in the cells of Column C to do this. Or perhaps a macro I can create and run on each row to make this happen?

    Thanks,
    BH

    Found it:

    =CONCATENATE(A1,"-",B1)

and it even gets me a "dash" between the area code and the number.

    Thanks,

    You can even use:
    =A1&"-"&B1

without the need to explicitly call the concatenate function...

If you want the data in column C to remain stable, you can copy the cell and then repaste immediately, using the "Paste Special" command, and then choosing "values".

THis replaces the calculated value with the actual value.
