    Win2k not detecting Palm

    Hey Woodsters,
Just upgraded to Win2k, and only one problem: it's not detecting my Palm Vx and so I can't Hotsync. Everything's plugged in (think it's into COM1), but just wouldn't detect. Indeed, when I try to add new hardware and specify Handheld devices, nothing happens when 'Next' is clicked.
    Any solutions? Thanks kindly.

Have you downloaded the latest versions of the Palm OS and HotSync Manager for your PDA? If not, start with that. My new machine with Win2k recognized my Palm without difficulties (but it was plugged into a USB port rather than a serial port), but I had to set the HotSync Manager to Local rather than modem as its default.

Your machine shouldn't care which COM port it's plugged into unless you have something else trying to address the flip side of that (Com1/Com3 or Com2/Com4). I had troubles with mine until I updated the HotSync manager and *then* updated the Palm OS. When I did it the other way around, my Palm couldn't connect to the PC. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

    Charlotte,
Thanks a lot for the advice. Really impressed that you didn't just glance at the date the question was posted and left it. I discovered the problem was that there's an extra bit of configuration that can't be accessed through the Palm Desktop but, which right-clicking the Hotsync symbol reveals: I'd been Hotsyncing to a non-existent USB connection, and just needed to change it to a serial connection (duh!). Anyway, that's it in a large nutshell. Thanks again.
