File properties not showing in ToolTip

I think this change occurred when I upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2010. I am using Windows XP SP3 OS.

Before, I could set the properties for a Word document inside word or by right clicking on the file in Explorer, choosing Propertie4s and then edit the properties. Then when I "moused over" the file name in Explorer, the "tool tip" type of window would pop up showing the properties I entered.

What has changed is that if I set the properties using either method above, I can still see them *until* I edit and save the document in Word. Then, all the properties entered do not show up.

Is there a fix for this?

Well it certainly works with Win 7 / Office 20010, so I am guessing the XP doesn't work with the new file format. Is it the same for both doc and docx formats?

Yes, the problem exists with both the native 2010 docx and older doc formats. Are you using 64 bit Office 2010? I've heard that the 32 bit version had some problem with the "MSOSHEXT.DLL" which is the ShellInfoTipHandler in some installations. I'm of course using the 32 bit Office 2010 with XP.

I'll test this on a Win XP (32-bit) machine tomorrow and let you know what I see. I've certainly not seen this reported before.

This sounds similiar to something I recently inquired about.
I.E. Until recently, when using Windows explorer, (Windows 7 and XP)
I was able to right click on an mp3 (or any type) file, select properties,
then details and thus be able to see title, artist, album etc.
Now when I right click on a filename, I don't get the details option.
I first noticed the change around the time that MS released a large series of
security updates last November or December. I never got a good explanation.

It may have been about the same time I had the problem was with the large batch of updates too.

I started having other problems such as not being able to save toolbar customizations. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled, keeping my settings files and then re-installing Office. That cleared all my problems and now the pop-up tool tip shows document properties I've defined.
