    Cool Keyboard Problem

    Hello

Looking for help with a Compaq CQ1-500 Netbook keyboard. Its on Windows 7 and using IE.

The keyboard is a bit mixed up. The lower case letters all seem to be fine, once capslock is on the letters go weird, not all of them. The I types QERWI and the K deletes everything and opens up the paint program, the enter button types a K and the space bar types zczczc. The number seem fine.

I've looked in the control panel and the language settings seem OK.

Any advise appreciated as this is not a problem I've seen before.

    thanks

    Hi all

Owner of netbook just confessed to spilling water on the keyboard a couple of days ago, thought as much but she swore blind she hadn't. I've taken back off but cannot see any sign of moisture. I've looked on the internet for advice and it seems that a gentle blow with a low heat hairdryer may help ... what do you reckon, I don't want to melt anything.

    thanks

Put it in an airing cupboard (if you have one) for a day or two, having turned it upside down and angled it about 45 from the horizontal. The hair-drier idea at a low heat is a more invasive variant of this. However, it seems that the problem isn't with the keys but with the electronics which process the keystrokes...

OK thanks for that, will try that but I'm guessing if it is the electronics then its beyond repair ... that is far too complicated for me to help her with.

    thanks

    Hello

Does anyone know if it possible to replace the keyboard? will this correct the problem or it the internal electrics that are broke?

Have noticed that they are selling replacement keyboards on ebay and wasn't sure if it would be worth a try for a tenner ...

    thanks

    ..........
Do you have a USB keyboard available to try out for awhile? You can then see if the rest of laptop is working.

Thank you so much for all your help ... have finally managed to borrow a USB keyboard and plugged it in and the netbook works fine

So looks like it might be worth getting a new keyboard for it ... are they easy enough to fit??

    thanks
