How to delete folder without deleting subfolders

    Hi,

    I could use some advice.

I use WinXP SP3. I have a partition with the following Directory (Folder) structure:

First level: Partition E:, My Documents.

    Second Level: Directory: My Documents..

    Third Level Subdirectories with files.

I'd lilke to get rid of the Second Level Directory called My Documents. How can I delete this Directory without deleting the Directories it contains?

    Many thanks in advance.
    Good luck, Dan S

As stated this is utterly impossible, for they would then be orphaned with no upper level directory!

If what you are asking is to move the lower-level directories up a level, then why not use Windows Explorer/My Computer and drag and drop them to the higher level? Then you can delete the now-empty "My Documents" (the correct one!)

You could cut and paste all the files and folders in the 3rd level from the 2nd level My Documents into the 1st level My Documents, thus leaving the 2nd level My Documents empty, then delete the 2nd level My Documents. I would also place a copy of all the 3rd level files and folders somewhere else until completing the process just in case. As BATcher states you can not simply elliminate the 2nd level without first moving all files and folders somewhere.
