PPTX file opens as a Powerpoint Show

In the last week something in my computer that is now causing all of my pptx files to open as Powerpoint Shows. If I right-click on a pptx file the context menu displays 'show' instead of 'open'.

The only way I can open a pptx file in the normal way is launch Powerpoint 2007 and select the file from Powerpoint 2007 menu 'open'.

I can take the same pptx file to another computer that is also running Windows 7 64-bit/Office 2007 and the files opens correctly and the context menu (right-click) is 'Open".

    How can I fix this?

    Not easy in Windows 7

You might like to download Default Programs Editor if you are reasonably competant (Google)
You can use it to change Show to Open for .pptx files

    Try this

Try this:under Windows Explorer - right click file name/properties/general/opens with/change.

Now browse to the program you want the file (type) to open with)

    Good luck

It's not opening in the wrong program though it has the %1 S&how action set as default instead of O&pen.

In XP you can get to this in Folder options but in Windows 7 this is really difficult to fix. The program I suggested will fix it though.

I've made the changes using the DefaultProgramOptions. Even though I now have "Open" as a context menu option, clicking on "open" still opens the file in presentation mode.
