On Fwd Msg - Msg text disappears (Office 2000 SR1-Wint NT 4 (sr6))

Note: our firm merged and this particular user is still on the Novell OS but eventually we will all be WinNT.
A user claims that when he tries to forward an e-mail to someone the message text disappears. I visited his office and can verify this is happening. I had heard that with OL 2000 if someone using Lotus sends an e-m to someone using OL2000 that the message will disappear on trying to forward same.
I had a look at the settings and they are set to 'include original msg text'. I was not able to verify that this was happening with all his e-mail on forwarding as the user was very impatient and said - "well of course it happened with all e-mail - did you not just see that?" <img src=/S/sarcasm.gif border=0 alt=sarcasm width=15 height=15> Nor was I able to find out if the sender of this message may have been using Lotus.
You see my dilemma! I'll revisit his pc when he's either out of his office or in a better frame of mind. <img src=/S/duck.gif border=0 alt=duck width=23 height=23>In the interim: has anyone heard of this before? Or know why this might be happening. Sure would appreciate some help.

    Hi,
If the message included an attachment and the receiver is using cc:Mail, then <A target="_blank" HREF=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q197/1/64.ASP>this</A> may be relevant.
    Hope that helps.

This probably isn't related, but I've created a number of "forms" in Outlook which are boilerplate text. I set them up not to send the form along with the message. If I don't make any changes at all to the standard text, Outlook sends a blank message, but if I type changes into the body, the recipient gets everything, as intended.

Is it possible that the message he got was an Outlook "form" and that somehow the form is getting lost?? Just a thought.

your problem is a known bug and i forget if there is a kb on it or not. i used to know the cause, but it's been so long ago that it was a problem that i've forgotten what it is. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

i had a signature set to add a period to the messages to work around it.

if you can get ahold of the mail, check it's header so you can confirm lotus notes use.

is he using outlook editor or word mail? plaintext or rtf?

the kb mentions a problem with word2002 mail, html format created with Siebel mail agent.

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by P McGinty on 18-Oct-01 22:03.</P>Thanks to all for the responses. No, Lotus is not being used. It's not the attachment that disappears but the message text that was in the original incoming e-mail. This is occurring whether he's forwarding or replying to an e-mail. As soon as he clicks on the DocsOpen icon to attach a file the message text disappears. I've searched the KB and have not found anything there that is helpful. BTW, his e-mail is set to HTML format and the option to change this to say, Rich Text Format, is greyed out. I sent an e-mail to another user to who is on the same OS as this guy and once again, the message text disappeared when she did a 'reply to' and attached a document. I'm going to see if CapSoft has a DocsOpen Q&A site and try to get some info there and will check out Sue Mosher's slipstick.com.

If the DOCS folks are adding their own buttons and macros, they certainly are the prime suspects. As a former user of DOCS Open, I feel entitled to say that. <grin> For WORLDOX, which we implemented two weeks ago, I will be the prime suspect, since I wrote the COM add-in that is going to intercept the Insert File command in Outlook 2000. (What I can't understand in my case is, when I add an attachment in VBA, why are two blank lines added to the top of the message body?? At least that's not destructive.)

The company changed its name to Omniva, but maintains a site at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.disappearing.com/>http://www.disappearing.com/</A>.

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by P McGinty on 21-Oct-01 19:35.</P>Thought I'd re-post just in case someone may have an idea especially as this is happening now with several other users. Previously they could forward messages and the message text stayed intact and they've always had docsopen. I thought I'd change the mail format to Rich Text just to see if it made a difference but the option to change from HTML is greyed out. Anyone have any ideas? The only thing different that happened is that about 100 users moved from our south tower to the north tower in d.t. Toronto over the long weekend. They are Novell OS.

How is the DOCS Insert File implemented: VBA or COM Add-in or OS-level intercept? If it's VBA, what is the code?

(I wrote a COM Add-in to integrate with WORLDOX (similar in principle to DOCS Open), and after adding the attachment, two blank lines are added to the top of the message body. I see no good reason for this to happen, but at least I don't lose what I'm forwarding!)

I have been now told this is a known issue and should be fixed with the update of DocsOpen (3.9?)
