Dell MEDIA DIRECT randomly starts up

    I have a Dell Inspiron 1720, running Vista SP2.

The PC runs great except for two nasty anomolies.

One is covered in another thread, related to BSOD and touchpad.

The other anomoly is that the DELL MEDIA DIRECT will fire up at random, usually a few times after startup.

DELL has attempted to blame this all on software / user configuraiton. HOWEVER, due to a hard drive failure, the entire PC was rebuilt from DELL CD's. Problem persisted! Also this was an upgrade from SP1 to SP2 and no change in problem.

The problem surfaced after a keyboard replacement. The motherboard was also replaced.

Any ideas on what I can ask Dell to do, to prove they have a hardware problem?

    THANKS.

(I am also posting a similar item about VISTA SP2 BSOD)

Do you have the most current drivers, BIOS, & Media Direct software from Dell?

    YES to all...
    What I recently did was..
    A) Hard Drive was replaced
    B) hard drive had a 'current' disk image from Dell
    C) Compared against the current drivers disk supplied
    D) Compared against the website

    Also,
    BIOS is most current available.
Media Direst is most current one available, and maintenance applied.

This appears to be a hardware problem, since all software was replaced, and problem persisted!

Since much hardware was replaced, have you powered down the PC opened it and checked all the physical connections?

Do you use the Dell Media Direct software? If not, uninstall it.
    From a web search:

"On your computer, there should be a button that looks like a home or Hut. If you push that even when the system is turned off, it starts Dell Media direct."
Perhaps this button is randomly making contact?
