    Updates make system unstable

Two week old Windows 7 Ultimate system.

Last week two M.S. Updates sneaked in without warning until I shut down.

The next day Windows decided on start-up that a USB drive needed updating,
and said a Restart was needed for completion.

I spent a couple of hours using the P.C. before shutting down.
After Restart the PC had a lifetime of only two minutes before it froze solid.
Ctrl Alt Del failed to close it. I had to switch of electrical Power.
Restart and launched Task Manager - 2 minutes later and it froze,
and even with Task Manager open and ready to act I could not shut down.
I tried many things without success, including booting into Safe Mode and using those options.

I restored the Macrium image taken two days before that fateful Windows Update,
    and everything is now fine.

I have legal Windows 7 which has passed WGA, but this latest sneaky WGA patch killed my system, AND NOT with nagging black screens every hour or whatever.
Obviously the WGA was NOT telling me I have an illegal system - it just killed it by a patch malfunction.

Anyone who thinks that a HDD crash is the only reason for imaging is ignorant of the real world.
Images are needed to recover from mistakes in patches, and from security lapses that admit malware.

What were the updates that caused your problems?

I split this into its own thread. Please do no hijack other threads.

It is unlikely WGA did anything in this scenario. What were the updates which caused the problem?

Not your post. Post #1 in the thread was originally added in another thread.
