    SP1 killed some software

i received a birthday gift of a lenovo all in one desktop model b510 2 weeks ago.
however it was purchased in november and held for 3 months before sending it to me.
    o/s win 7 pro
when i went to microsoft updates i also downloaded sp1. after that sp1 was installed many software items that came with computer no longer functioned. the manufacturer said the only way to get them back is to do a complete re-install. i don't want to do that as it will take me forever to install programs installed after settin up system. has anyone in this forum had this type of problem, and if so please reply.
    thanks

    raggy, Welcome to the Lounge.

I would suspect most of the apps that do not work are the manufacturer branded apps. Most of these are probably not needed anyway.

You may have a problem fixing this without a reinstall. Because manufacturers bastardize Windows to suit their needs, these changes quite often require specialized updates for the branded apps. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer. Another possibility is to visit the manufacturer web site support area and download the apps not working and reinstalling them.

As long as you have not run any SP-1 cleanup routines, you should be able uninstall SP-1. Go to Control Panel | Programs | Installed updates. You should see Service Pack 1 in the Windows 7 section. You should be able to select it and uninstall it.

I wonder if even after uninstalling SP1 any branded apps may not be fixed without a reinstall of those apps. Just wondering.

They did not reinstall and Lenovo wanted $89 dollars for each program I wanted back. Also when going to task manager, if I have 4 apps open & want to close one, all apps disappear instantly from task manager, even though the other 3 are still open. Again they wanted $89 to fix that. I’ve had the machine 2 weeks now, so much to say about their warrantee. Any ideas about the task manager would be appreciated. Thanks for your reply

Any applications that were specifically added to your computer by Lenovo should have them for download along with all your needed drivers.
So unless the software is trialware or had been added to your system after purchase Lenovo should have it on it's site.
