Why does onboard Gig-E update so often?

This is a question more than a problem. I try to keep my hardware drivers up to date, and one that seems to update fairly regularly is the onboard RealTek Gigabit Ethernet controller on my ASUS P5Q-EM motherboard. I'm just curious - why would a commodity component like that need to be updated regularly? What changes that requires a maintenance upgrade? Thanks!

If you are being notified by Windows Update about a driver update, I recommend you ignore it and get the driver from the OEM. Driver updates from Windows Update often are not the latest.

If not, how are you finding the updates?

There ought to be a revision log located one Realtek's site listing the changes made upon latest version, or burried in the downloaded and installed driver.
