    Detaching AVHD

I followed the instructions in Windows 7 Forums to attach a VHD from a system image, but when I right click on the VHD I do not get an option to detach the VHD.I would appreciate advice as to how to do this.

    Thanks and regards,
    Roy

I have wrote out the procedure below and possibly the issue you were having is related to UAC or you were not clicking on the Disk # but the partition.

Open the Start Menu. In the Search box, type compmgmt.msc and press Enter.

If prompted by UAC, then click on Yes.

In the left pane, click on Disk Management.

Right click on the Disk # of the VHD and click on Detach VHD.

NOTE: Remember to Uncheck "Delete the virtual hard disk file after removing the disk box" if you wish to keep the VHD image.

Thanks JDB1984,but the procedure you outline is exactly what I tried.I get the option to delete the vhd but not the option to detach it.

    Any other ideas?

    Please advise.

    Regards,Roy

Hi again JDB1984, I finally realised what I was doing wrong,i.e I was right clicking the drive in the top half of the disk management window, instead of the lower area, and have now been able to detach the vhd.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,Roy

Glad you got it sorted royw,

It's funny how most tasks in Windows you can accomplish several ways where as some it has to be done in nearly a particular voodoo sequence or no dice
