    I'm upgrading from a dual core to quad AMD and adding a hard drive.

    I need to move my music off of the existing drive to the new one both are SATA2. Will quad core speed up moving the music? My intuition says no.

    Not likely, moving data is a disk activity, not a CPU one.
    Just copy and paste, then if all is well you can delete the original data - I would make a backup first.

    If the new operating system is Windows 7, use Windows Easy Transfer to copy your data and program configuration options. You will still have to reinstall all your apps but this eases the pain.
