    The way you show something different in a combo from the actual value selected is by giving the combo more than one column, but making the width of the actual value column 0". That eliminates all the maintenance required to maintain value lists. Sorry, but I don't understand what you're doing with the second combo at all.

    Filling the rowsource doesn't cause a value to be selected. If the second combobox is bound, you should see the underlying value showing as the selections. If it's not bound, then why not? Are you using a continuous form with a combobox on it? That's where you often see similar behavior because the value in the underlying field isn't contained in the rowsource for the filtered combobox.

    I still don't see why you need two comboboxes, though, if you're capturing the actual value in the first combo. What is the second combobox for?

    thanks, I fixed the problem, I was missing a single comma in separating the values in the 2nd combo
