    Time out?

I have not had the time, since the Lounge went to its shiny version, to
examine all the bells and whistles. And some things certainly are different
(like the daily summaries and how to register for a board like Excel).

But I've worked thru them so far when I've had a need. For example, it
wasn't exactly obvious how to register for a board, especially since there
seems to be various related objects one now has access to.

Perhaps there was a tutorial on the Lounge Matters? I was inactive for a bit
    so may have missed it.

BUT a very frustrating item is having to log on in order to reply or create
a new post. OK, I understand that. But it seems there's a timer running so
that if I don't submit my reply/post, I find myself logged off and my typing
is lost (unless I remember to copy-paste it to a file on my PC). In cases
such as this, I have one of 3 alternatives: abandon the item, retype the
item (uggg), paste it from my PC file.

Given the last alternative only works if I remember to do it (and I have to
update the copy-paste if I'm making changes on the Lounge entry) and the
other 2 alternatives are very UNdesirable, I'm wondering if I'm missing
    something.

Like hitting CTRL+s to save on the Lounge, kind of like working in an Office
    app.

    Thks.

How long does it take to be timed out? I have never experienced this problem.

    Hi John,

I'd say it's not more than 10 minutes - possibly less. I've experienced this numerous times - perhaps it's problems with the servers but it happens quite a bit, so I can't believe that it's my luck. I'll be typing something (response or post), go to post it, and find I've been logged out. When I log back in, I see that my response is gone. Or is it hiding somewhere?

I've become so paranoid that I Select All and copy for everything I do - even this short post.

    Thanks.

Your session should not time out because it is maintained using a cookie. If you have some aggressive cookie removal software, you might need to make an exception for windowssecrets.com. I haven't tested on this forum, but some forums will invalidate your session if your IP address changes. That should affect most users, but if you are browsing from an unusually dynamic IP address, that might be relevant to you.

Maybe it is the dynamic IP address changes.

About a month ago, I found myself losing my Internet connection. Upon inquiry with my provider (Verizon), I was told they were having problems with dynamic IP addresses.

However, my problems with the Lounge as far as losing items did not occur at that time. But if the Lounge is taking action based on IP address changes, that could explain it.

    Any ideas on testing this?

    Thanks.

You probably could test it with a proxy, such as one of the anonymizing networks, but it would be useful if an admin could first indicate whether that is a potential cause or my guess is completely off base.

    test with proxy? how

an admin could first indicate...? not sure who you're talking about and how we'd get such an admin, once found, to give some level of confidence that this is a potential cause rather than wasting time. Hopefully you're not talking about someone from Verizon - they're not very helpful.

A Lounge admin who is familiar with the configuration. I don't have any information.

    Hi Jefferson,

    Thanks.

    OK. So a Lounge admin.

How does one get to him/her?

This thread has been on the Lounge Matters board.

I don't know what to tell you. Seems we are thinly staffed at that level since the latest changeover.

The timeout/automatic logout issue is a bug of some sort we'll need to get looked at. It's been brought to my attention today, after having been reported by numerous members and moderators, and I'm getting it looked at by iNet's development team.

Thanks for ensuring we are aware of it.

We're also working on the staffing issue, and I'm personally just trying to help out in that regard in the interim until we can get a community admin in place here.

    No problem.

You guys deserve better, and sometimes its a resource issue holding iNet back from being where they want to be - there is only so many people and so much time. Today, the resource issue was still there, but I woke up early and am going to bed late. There has been a bit of neglect here in the lounge on the administration side of things, and the moderators as well as members have felt some of those pains. Fortunately, I got a few things caught up a bit today. Going forward, I'll be doing what I can to ensure we keep up with site needs better, and long term we'll get more administration staff in place also so we have a more robust lineup on the community side to ensure people are getting what they need. The mods can do everything they can, but sometimes you just need an admin to take care of certain things.

    Thanks to I.M.O.G.

I thought it was just me!

As long as you guys are aware of the problem and are working on it, I feel better.
