No sound from Live TV in Windows Media Center

All of a sudden, I lost sound from Live TV in Windows Media Center--Windows 7-64 bit. I have a Hauppauge 1850 TV tuner card, and using WinTV 7 I get both picture and sound. Using Nerovision Capture, I also get a picture and sound from my set top box, but not from Windows Media Center. It's apparently a common problem, but many of the suggested solutions from Google and Windows forums have not helped! Hopefully the very computer knowledgeable Windows Secrets community will have a workable solution! Thanks very much!

Where do you think most of us get our solutions? I also cannot get sound out of my Hauppage card on Win 7 Pro 64-bit. The web pages I have looked at seem to indicate that I need to run a wire from the Hauppage card to the sound card. I haven't cracked open my case to see it that wire is there or not; it's hard ot say because it has been a while since I installed the card and when I do crack open the case I forget to look!)

The thing is that if I boot into XP then the sound comes in just fine. And even curiouser, if I run WinTV and tell it to record a program, when I play back the recording the sound is there! Fortunately, I rarely run live TV on my PC. Though I do a lot of recording, usually after rebooting into XP because I have XP set up as a minimal system, not even any network connections so that I can get the best possible recording. (Network operations tend to freeze the PC for a second or two if there is no response, which causes annoying dropouts in the recording.)

For eight months or so, I had no problems. Therefore the setup would seem to be intact. especially since both Win TV 7 and Nerovision provide both video and sound! I have done all kinds of changing the settings for my sound card, etc using the properties and mixer options to no avail. I tried to do a system restore which didn't work. I had not knowingly installed any new programs, etc. around the time I lost sound. Other suggestions, that also didn't work. were to uninstall the audio (sound) cards from Device Manager, and reboot. Also to go into add and remove programs, and un-check Windows Media Center under Media, and then reboot. One of the first things that I did was to make sure all drivers were the latest, and then also tried to roll back the appropriate drives. 0% success!! There may have been some other things I have tried and forgotten since this happened. Again thanks to all for your interest and help!

Looks like you have tried the typical list of things. And it is very curious that WinTV and Nerovision work, but Media Center doesn't.

Just out of curiosity I decided to fire up Media Center and configure Live TV. Don't hate me, but I get video and sound! And I just now verified that with WinTV 7 I still get no sound.
