    Online Resources

Other than Microsoft's relatively user-hostile online help, is there an detailed, online resource listing for:

    1) What each FIELD type can do?

    2) What each control accomplishes under "More Controls" on the Developer tab?

    3) What each of the controls' "Properties" accomplishes (i.e. Accelerator, GroupName, TripleState, etc.)?

I'm using Word 2007, if that makes a difference.

    Thanks.

The only places you could hope to find that level of detail is a thorough search of MSDN and Technet.

Some of the fields are quite ancient, so pre-VBA documentation dating back to Word 6.0/95 could be useful as well.

Regarding 2) and 3), if you're referring to the ActiveX Controls that are available via the Legacy Tools dropdown, these are lightweight versions of the nearly equivalent controls available when working with userforms in the VB Editor - you can locate Help info for these controls in Word 2007 this way:

    • Go to the Visual Basic Editor, and from there to the Object Browser (F2 is a shortcut to get there).
    • In the dropdown at the top left, switch to 'MSForms', and in the search box below that, type the name of the control you're interested in - for instance 'Checkbox'.
    • Click on the Search button.
    • In the search results below, click on the Checkbox item to select it, and then click the Help button (or F1) to open up the Help window.
    • Annoyingly, a general online help topic (which usually isn't very helpful) will display by default.
    • Click the dropdown arrow at the right of the 'Search' button near the top of the Help window, and click on 'Developer Reference'.
    • Type 'Checkbox' into the search field again, and click on the Search button again.

This will display a detailed list of topics relating to the Checkbox object and its properties.

A lot of steps (there may be an easier way, not sure), but it does get you there.
Another alternative is to keep another PC handy that has an earlier version of Word, and use that as your reference look-up source.
