    New Posts page problem

Since we're getting help with the site, I thought I'd mention a problem I've just ignored for a while (i.e. I don't remember when I first noticed it).

    System: Windows XP SP3
    Browser: FF 3.6.16

The time stamp in the "Last Post: " column is cut off after the first character of the time. So the latest item on the page shows "Last Post: 2011-03-25 1".

Chrome does not have the same problem.

Never mind. Apparently the columns are dynamically sized, and I need to stretch FF wider than I normally have it to get that column to show the entire time stamp. Doh!

    Thanks for fixing that!

Appreciate the heads up though anyways, let us know if you come across anything else.

The text doesn't wrap when there isn't enough width to display it, it just gets cut off. Not saying this is good, that's just the way that page is designed.

Further testing looks like this only affects visitors running resolutions with a width of 1024px or less...

Seeing that, I ran a quick analysis of screen resolutions for our visitors here... 15% use resolutions of 1024px wide or lower, while over 66% use 1280 or higher. So it looks like while the lack of text wrapping on that field isn't ideal, it only affects a minority of visitors here. With the other big projects going on for Windows Secrets right now, this is probably an issue we should push off until later, or maybe the impact doesn't justify it... As time goes on, there are fewer and fewer displays running at 1024px across.

Although I consider this whole mess that I began quite a non-issue, I found your statement curious. As my display is set to 1920 x 1080, I wanted to see what my browser window size was when in the condition I first described, then the size I needed to see all the characters in the time stamp.

Using an AutoIt script to return the rect structure for the IE window, I came up with this data:
    Code:
Test of IE Window Size as it Related to
the Visibility of Date and Time Stamp Text
on the Windows Secrets "New Posts" Page

    Display Parameters
    ------------------

    Screen Resolution
    	Width: 1920
    	Height: 1080

    Display Properties -- Advanced Appearance
    	Active Title Bar:	29
    	Active Window Border:	1

    Internet Explorer Window Dimensions
    -----------------------------------

Size of a Maximized IE Window
    	Left: 0
    	Right: 1920
    	Top: 30
    	Bottom: 1046
    	Width: 1920
    	Height: 1016

Size of a Windows Secrets "New Posts" Window
     - All characters of time-stamp are visible
     - With vertical scroll bar in window
    	Left: 50
    	Right: 1160
    	Top: 57
    	Bottom: 979
    	Width: 1110
    	Height: 922

Size of a Windows Secrets "New Posts" Window
     - All characters of date and only the 1st character of time are visible:
     - With vertical scroll bar in window
    	Left: 50
    	Right: 1039
    	Top: 57
    	Bottom: 979
    	Width: 989
    	Height: 922
The above results were when a scroll bar WAS present. Without the scroll bar, the minimum width I needed is 1093, which is still more than the width of 1024 you found to be problematic.

Hope this help to confirm your analysis. For myself, it was an excuse to play with AutoIt a little more.
