    Bizarre ZoneAlarm Pro behaviours

    Hi Folks,

Out of all the firewalls I've tried, I found ZoneAlarm to be the most user-friendly for my needs.

But there are a couple of issues that test my sanity around ZA.

I'm running XP Home SP3 and ZA Security Suite v8.0.298.000.

Example 1: about 6 months ago I uninstalled Avast AV and Avira AV from my system. Did a thorough clean and swept the registry for remnants which I deleted. Tonight several of those AV system files reappeared in ZA's Program Control list of programs. This kind of thing has happened many times over the years of using ZA. I've reinstalled ZA a number of times but these ghost files reappear out of the blue, maybe after a system reboot or simply just randomly.

Example 2: I spent frigging hours trying to find out why Firefox won't play YouTube and other movies. One of my fave sites is Ted.com with its video lectures which does not even open properly in Firefox. Researched it wherever I could. Tonight on impulse I turned off ZA and voila! The Ted site works beautifully.

All along I suspected Firefox when in fact the culprit seems to be ZA!

Has anyone here had similar problems and how did you fix them.

    Thanks with gratitude!

Hi nzo, I would use Revo Uninstaller in Moderate mode to uninstall ZA. remove your current AV program, then re install Avast, remove with Revo, same for Avira.
Run reg cleaner then the cleaner in default mode for both using CCleaner.
What AV do you intend to use when done as above ?

Hey Roadrunner...good to see you're still here helping out! Thanks for your suggestions (and tip on Revo), which make sense as to where the ZA 'ghost' programs keep coming from.

I'm using Eset NOD32 as my AV - one of the better ones from reviews and user comments I've read.

I imagine as a CCleaner user you've heard of CCEnhancer which expands the power of CCleaner?
