    ZIP This.!!!

I received about four of these over the past few days....

Obviously, MSE isn't picking it up but when I tried to save it out of curiosity for a scan. MSE stopped me....

It seems to be related to the Package Delivery Virus (as indicated by Stopes) - it's been around for years.

That makes sense. Unless your email runs is retrieved through a scanning proxy on the way to your inbox, a feature not included with all security suites, the first time an attachment will be scanned is when you access it and the mail program saves it to a temp folder.

AFAIK, MSE does not scan email. You need to open or save an attachment for MSE to take any action.

Well, I use Thunderbird and I thought it scanned attachments..

Not that I would depend on it to find everything....

My policy is to NEVER open attachments before scanning them even if they come from people I know...

    Well, it just never ends.
The sad thing is that people still fall for this stuff.
If they didn't, then it would all stop..

I get a lot of UPS deliveries and I could understand the curiosity of someone opening an email thinking it's from UPS...

That's the main reason when I ship things via UPS I don't sign up for email alerts..

    Banyarola,
Hello... I have been receiving this same E mail notification as well ...As i also use UPS and do receive the tracking information ( handy to see when the package is going to be delivered) One thing.... the "attachment" to click on said "Trackin information" Good clue that it was not "legit" Regards Fred

MSE does NOT scan emails as they are received. It scans the attachments as they are accessed (i.e opened or saved). Email files will be scanned as part of a scheduled or manually initiated scan of the PC.

Fred, I didn't notice the spelling...

Joe, I thought Thunderbird scanned attachments...

But, like all these things, people get lulled into relying too much on AV and other security programs to protect them from themselves...

    Banyarola,
Yes...and this is a good example of why you should use Acronis "Try & Decide" ...that is ... if you can't resist and have to open such things. Regards Fred

Don't know about Thunderbird. Sorry if I misunderstood your question.

    Banyarola,
Hello... Just to "update" I have received another "bogus" E-Mail message this time from FedEx ...probably another variant of the same virus... If you "hover" your mouse over the E-Mail message you can see (at least with Yahoo) the sender info... And it's some crazy address (with FedEx in it)... Pays to be careful ! Regards Fred
