Determining E-Mail address or IP number

    Hi,

I have a note-taking program that allows the notes to be sent to an email address. To do this, though, the mail server address or IP number must be entered in a set-up form. How do I determine the maill server address or IP number?

    Thank you.

    Roderunner - WDR, I think you've misunderstood Moon's problem

Moon, Your ISP should have provided you with the name of their SMTP host

It will probably look something like "mail.your_isp.com", plug that into the note taker

The SMTP host is what takes your outgoing mail and puts onto the truck that delivers the mail to the recipient.

If you use a regular mail program (e.g. Outlook (Express), Thunderbird, Eudora etc), then you would have configured it with your ISP's SMTP host name.

Thank you Roadruner and Northwood2222 for your responses.

Roadrunner, what you sent is really outstanding information to have. I have saved it and I will peruse it.

Northwood2222, I will contact my carrier in the morning to get my IP address. Tonight, though, I will search for a site I now vaguely recall that allows one to bring up their IP address.

Both of you have a Good one....

You do not want your IP address. You want the name or IP address of the email server to which you connect.

You can easily find the IP address of your PC by opening a command windows and using the ipconfig command. The link you provided shows you the IP address of the device connected directly to the Internet not necessarily that of your PC. In many cases now that is a router.
