How to Subtract Sum of Several Cells from Fixed Number

I want a forumla that will subtract the sum of several cells from a fixed number.

This works when I want to subtract just one cell:

    =sum(2000-(c111)

It's when I want to subtract the sum of several cells that I run into trouble.

    =sum(2000-(c111:c114))

The above gives me a #VALUE!. It's probably as plan as the nose on my face but it's not coming to me. Why doesn't this work?

    /facepalm

Thank you. That worked. Must have changed formula methods with Excel 2007 because I don't remember that in earlier versions.
