Thunderbird 3.1.9 junk mail settings not deleting some emails

I have Thunderbird's email junk settings to delete any messages in the junk folder that are older than 2 days. However messages from one sender never get deleted no matter how old they are. Is there any reason those emails are being ignored by the junk settings? My message filters automatically send them to the junk folder; but they stay there until I end up manually deleting them.

I don't want to "unsubscribe" to these emails in case that acts as a confirmation of my email.

I've been getting junk mail, just lately, with a future date on them. That might affect this setting. I thought you were supposed to leave the junk mail for about about 14 days, so as to let the settings "train" themselves - no?

When they are in the junk folder I think you have to right click on the folder and mark them READ if you have any unread ones there.

I have my settying to delete every day and it seems to work fine for me.
