almost duplicate user names windows 2000

I deliberately re-installed alongside a previous installation of windows 2000 after too many system files disappeared. I'm happy to have the back up information still intact, but here's the question.

Is it safe to remove those user.HOME folders, or should I remove the old user folders? I don't want to mess up the system again.

Thanks for any further words of wisdom

OK, I bit the bullet after posting the above and tried deleting a user folder, both user.HOME, and user. It turns out that I couldn't delete user.HOME, but I could delete the old folder. Space is not an issue at the moment so I'll just live with it and the next time the user mucks up his system I'll move the user folders before I re-install.
