    .docx to .rtf

Is there a problem converting a .docx file in most recent version of word to a .rtf file? Secretary claims she tried and lost entire file.

I've not seen any but that does not mean there aren't problems. If the .docx file has new Word 2010 features that could be a problem. Is she just saving the .docx file as a .rtf? What does she mean by "lost the entire file" - the .rtf is empty or she can't find it?

How was she 'converting' the .docx file to the .rtf file? Surely only by loading the .docx file into Word 2010 and then saving it as a .rtf. So she should have not zero files but two!

Word has become somewhat finicky about file extensions when opening documents. To avoid problems, it is best to use the default extension for the format and NOT save a DOCX with a DOC extension or an RTF with a DOCX extension, etc.
