    Internet connection sharing

I have a WindowsXP fully patched system connected to cable internet via an ISP supplied modem and a Netgear Router. The connection was good and the router provides wi-fi connection for visitors' laptops. But now, a family member has purchased an Apple MacBook Pro and wants wired internet access. When he connects to the router the XP system is dropped. When XP is rebooted the Apple is dropped. Is it possible to connect both at the same time? What am I not doing right?

The router can be installed without the cd.The information is a little old but;http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=3988 This should give you an idea anyway. If nothing else I would contact Netgear either by phone of e-mail of further instructions. If the above link doesn't help.
