You could create a batch file that would execute n executable program and put it in your startup...that's how virus creators do it. Can be done directly with an executable file in your startup...dunno why you'd want such a thing...

Well, no. I won't. I'm not a programmer and though I know such things exist, I am not interested in creating programs that can be used maliciously. If you want to get rid of the file, just delete it from your file manager/explorer, and then empty your recycle bin.

I'm sure if you hang out on some hacker bulletin boards, you can find a program that will work for what you want it to do.

If the stuff is classified, have you considered putting a password on it, so no one can access it but you? That's easy enough to do. Do a "save as" on your document and give the document a name. Before clicking on save, click on tools in the toolbar in the save window, click on general options, and assign a password. No one will be able to open it without the password. Another way to protect files.

    Hope this helps.

Kurt, this is an Excel Forum.

If you have an Excel file you do not want viewed, create a blank sheet in the workbook, hide all the other sheets with data, except the blank one, and password protect the workbook with a 24 character or longer password with mixed numbers and letters. This is not permanent protection, excel passwords are breakable, but it should prevent amateurs from viewing the data.

To delete the file follow Suzabelle's advice.

If you wish to encrypt more securely, there are plenty of net resources you can find.

yes, you can have code delete a file. or data in the file. it's actually a FAQ question on the excel mailing lists i follow.

either create a batch file to delete the entire book (in notepad enter
    del fullpath/filename.xls
    run from your desktop

or use vba to clear all the cell contents and save. this might be better, the chance of recovering the data is lessened greatly. run from excel.

nothing malicious about the question. programmers do it all the time for very legitimate reasons.

do you want to wipe out the data or just disable use of the workbook? Like shareware developers timing out their code? That can be done too. search on the excel-l list at http://www.lsoft.com that was discussed within the last couple of weeks.
