    Word Icon

Greetings - not sure if this is the right place to post this but hopefully someone knows the answer.
2 PC's networked together. Each has a shared folder accessible by the other.
From PC 1 can browse to shared folder on PC 2 and open any doc, xls, etc. but from PC 2 when browse to shared folder on PC 1 it will not open any of these unless you open the application first then browse to the file.
If I associate the file with the correct application, ie: associate file type .doc with MS Word, it creates an icon that says WordIcon. Any way to change the behavior so I can open files from PC1 or PC 2 the same way?
Thanks in advance for your help.

You do not say what version of Windows, what version of office. Is the sharing set up properly on PC2 to allow access to the shared folder from PC1?
