MSE On/Off Control?

I recently had to update my Quicken on my XP machine.
I'm running MSE and ZoneAlarm free firewall.
Quicken recommended shutting down any AV SW for the install.
I looked for a way to shut down MSE and could NOT find one, either in the SW itself or my MSCONFIG settings.
I suppose I could have tried the install in Safe mode, but didn't think of that.
The install went OK with MSE running, but now I'm wondering how I control MSE short of uninstalling it.
Am I missing something here?

You can temporarily stop it by removing it's processes in taskmanager's processor tab.
They should be...MsMpEng.exe & msseces.exe

...Just boot to re-enable it after.

It is routine for software to recommend that, but I wouldn't bother unless you have a problem with the install.

I agree and I have yet to encounter an install issue where MSE was the cause of the problem.

With MSE, you can simply turn off real time protection - Settings tab, real-time protection option chosen on the left, then uncheck Turn on real-time protection(recommended).
Once you have done all you wanted to do with MSE off, just check the same option to get real-time protection on again.
