    Downloading Windows Updates

    Hello all,
When doing normal downloading of programs you can specify the "Where" EX: "Desktop", "Downloads Folder", or "Temp" etc. when doing a MS download ....does anyone know where MS puts them ? ( i have looked while doing an MS download and couldn't find them) If you knew you could then save them to another place (have done this with many times with other "updates") .... Lets say you want to try an "Update" for some program ... and you want to "Play Around" with it ... If you have the "update" you could then remove and re-install as desired ...without having to go through the "Windows Update Thing " again. "Just Ask'in" Regards Fred

Hi Fred, when doing MS or Windows updates, they're normally saved to temporary folders. If you want to save them, note the kb number, then go to MS download Site. Its Here.

See step 4 in the "Let me do it myself" section of How do I reset Windows Update for the folder names.

    Joe, Roderunner,
Hello...and thank you for your reply's.. Guess that i didn't make myself clear... What I'm looking for is the "Where" MS places the files (Downloads) initially, when you do the "Update" thing.... When you select the "Patches and Updates" ... MS starts the "Download" It must be placing them somewhere...before the "Install" begins. The "somewhere" is what I'm looking for... Now the "Why".... EX: I only have one system (Win 7 \ 64 ) that has any (actually all) patches or updates ( just for a control against a no patch OS) Sometimes the patched OS has a "Update" for some non MS program .... and won't say exactly what it is...just says "Recommended or Optional" With some meaningless Blah, Blah, statement... If i can find where it downloaded it to, i can then stop the install (after the download part) and have a look at exactly what the update is... Not talking the MS updates. (security and OS stuff ) They (MS) must be using a "Temp" folder .... just don't know where... Best.... Fred

I believe MS uses temp internet folders for this purpose. I believe after installation they are stored in Windows, SoftwareDistribution folder. I am not positive on any of this Fred so don't quote me.
