Excel 2007 Data Connection to .xls - Won't import last column

We regularly export reports from our Service Desk tool in .xls format. I'm trying to connect to one of these reports via a Data Connection in Excel 2007 and whilst the connection works (import as table), the last column isn't imported.

I'm not tweaking the Data Connection setting, I'm just using the defaults.

If I load the exported .xls in Excel and manually add another column, both columns are imported. Is this a known bug?

It looks like it works in Excel 2010, but I need to do some more investigation. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you open the exported xls, save and close it (without making changes) does it then import correctly?
