    Intermittent cursor freeze...wait 15-30 seconds...it frees up

    Often the laser in mouse goes off during part of it, but not always. No special mice or flaky software...my "business" machine...XP SP3.

    Do you have any USB drives attached that do not have their own separate power source? If so, are both devices attached to the same set of ports? We had this happen to one of our Executive's laptop. He had a wireless mouse and a 2.5in 250 GB USB drive (powered by the USB port) connected to the second set of ports on the left side of the laptop. It turned out that both devices drew too much power and were causing the mouse to behave in exactly the way you are describing. We had him put the USB in the back set of ports and the problem went away.
