Word has encountered a problem

and needs to close.

This message pops up when I try to open certain documents. I am running Word 2010 on Windows XP. The documents in question are either Word 2007 or 2003 (.doc format), and contain either graphics or tables. When I try to open them, I receive the above message. Clicking <OK> shuts down Word and restarts it.

I have searched for solutions and have done the following: a) renamed the normal.dot b) reset the registry for Word and c) removed the compatability option for Word and made sure all of my documents save in the .docx format. Nothing has solved this.

Open Word and then use File>Open, navigate to a problem file and then use the Open dropdown arrow to choose 'Open and Repair'

Sorry for the delay in answering. Work has been extremely busy lately.

No, using the Open and Repair tool does not work.

Any more ideas?
