    SP1 install fails

I also took Woody's advice and went to download SP1. Before that, I tried using UPDATE, but it kept failing. The download from MS won't work either. After following all of MS suggesstions, it still won't work. MS states I have to reinstall Windows 7. I'd rather not (I do have a mirror image of my computer backed up). Any other suggestions?
    Thanks

I split this into its own thread. Please do not hijack other threads. Even though your problem may appear to be similar, it very quickly becomes difficult to keep track of the various responses.

    Phillywill,
Can you post the error message you are getting when you try this?

Do you have ALL other updates installed?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Have you temporarily disabled your AV and firewall prior to the offline install?
Have you done the above in safemode as well?
Service Pack 1 is ancient history, have you been running WU in all this time prior to attempting the SP1 install?
(You may have accumulated other non service pack updates that are interfering with the installation of SP1)

Apologies, for some reason I thought you were refering to XP SP1. I had Windows XP stuck in mind.

I disabled AV & firewall. I just tried in safemode and had the same failure. I know SP1 has been available, but Woody Leonhard (askwoody.com) just OK'd installing it this week.

    Thanks Joe,

I ran lpksetup.exe and English is only language installed. The following is the result of c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log (Guess I'll have to reinstall Windows 7 to fix the missing componets?):

Yes - Solutions 1 & 2 were the first things I did. - Last night I re-installed Windows 7 using the "Upgrade" option and this morning I spent hours updating. That did not solve the problem. It's still failing. I guess the next option is to do a complete format and reinstall not using "Upgrade"?

I just ran chksur.log and chksur.persistlog and both reported "no errors."
I get this error message: Downloading KB976932-x86.cab and after about a minute it fails.

Yes and just re-downloaded it again to make sure. Same result: fails after clicking install and while downloading Windows6.1-KB976932-x86.cab

The Upgrade option can bring forward any problems with the original OS. That is why many of us state using the Custom (Clean) install option leaves a much more pristeen OS. I would think that the time you are spending trying to figure out what is going wrong might be better spent doing a Custom install to get rid of unknown Upgrade install problems. Ensure your data is backed up somewhere you can get it back, then do the Custom install. I have to believe this will solve the failed install of SP1. If you check many of the early posts on Win 7 you will see most of the "expert" here do advise to use the Custom install, not the Upgrade install. Unfortunately this does then require all apps to be reinstalled.

When I run lpksetup there is a yellow caution triangle next to ENGLISH. Can that be the problem? If so, How do I fix it? I looked online and the English Language Pack can only be downloaded from MS with the Ultimate or Enterprise editions of Windows 7. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium.
