    Shut down

My XP laptop shuts down once in a while. I don't know why. Is there a log file I could look at to see the cause?

Do you mean the power goes off suddenly?

Or do you mean that XP goes through the shutdown sequence?

Does this happen when you are running one particular program?

Does this happen after a certain amount time that the PC is used?

Does is happen no matter where the laptop is located?

It randomly shuts down. The last time I was running windows update. I usually look at stock charts, they're up all day. It shuts down without any indication, the power just goes off. It's on an APC UPS.

Random power shutdowns are usually a sign of overheating caused by fan not functioning or a power supply failing or the PC needs to be cleaned. If you've never cleaned the PC that would be the first place to start.

    VikAZ,
Hello.. Although i do not have a "Laptop" i had problems with "random shutdowns" ...Turned out to be a lose "motherboard" . could repeat the problem by "tapping" on my desktop... (one place more sensitive than others ) Give it a try .... you might have a loose connector or something similar. Regards Fred
