    Updates

I was hoping when changing to Windows 7 the amount of updates would diminish somewhat, or is this normal because of new PC only 3 weeks old.

Do I need the Windows live essentials updates as I don't have a clue. (I will Google it)

Hello again...This is all a matter of preference ... Yes on a new "Install" you will get a "flood" of patches and updates.. to bring you up to speed... Some have to be installed before the others ...so on and so no. As far as having to ...That's a personal choice ...Example... I have several OS's without one patch or update ,and the same with all patches and updates...(All the same hardware and installed software) I use my own mix of security (Malwarebytes PRO and Norton Internet Security 2011) The Patched OS's are several GB's larger and have exhibited some quirks... (nothing to write home about) and the "Patchless" ones are OK too.. So Go figure...Choice is yours . I'm sure that you will get a mix of responses...to your question ...Me ..i just like not having to deal with all the endless "Patches to patch patches merry go round" Been doing this for several years now...no problem. Let the "screaming begin" Regards Fred

I believe it is important to keep your system up-to-date with patches. Some quote the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" to justify not applying patches. But in today's world of unrelenting attempts to exploit system and user vulnerabilities what is broken that you don't realize can hurt your system and worse you confidential information very badly.

Well I do believe important updates etc should be installed but Microsoft does throw a lot of stuff at you.

Unfortunately, there can be many updates for a new system. For a new PC or a new install of an OS, if there is a service pack available I get that installed as quickly as possible. The number of individual updates is then significantly reduced.
