Switching from a 9x based operating system to the 2000 kernel.....I would bite the bullet, back up your favorite things, and start fresh with a format and clean install. You will never be sorry that you took the extra time.

It depends: if you want to get rid of ME altogether follow the previous advice. On the other hand, if you want both, and a choice at boot up (a Dual Boot system) just install 2kP in a different partition. You will get a file called NTLDR on the root of your C: drive which must not be altered in any way. In either case, you should use the Windows 2000 full product, and not the upgrade. I know it's cheaper, but....
If you want your OSs to see each other, choose to install Win 2k into a FAT32 partition, not NTFS5. If you want all the features of NTFS, (such as maximum security) then you can choose that option during the installation.
