CD Player

Since moving to W2K from NT4, CD player cannot download album info from the internet.
All I get is the message:
Unable to connect to album information providers.
Check your internet settings and try again.
What 'internet settings' should I be checking?

You know Leif, I've had this happen recently too, and the conclusion that I came to was that the built in CDPLAYER.EXE is hardwired to sites that don't provide it anymore. WInAmp can get the titles with no problem from the CDDB, as can all other CDDB compliant apps.

I haven't bothered to see if the download sites can be changed, but I would guess not since they are coded into the GUI for CDPLAYER. Short sighted on Microsoft's part.

I seem to recall that there was a CD playing app that would export to an INI file, which can then be imported.....but that seems like a lot of trouble for very little gain.

Thanks - I fear you are right.
I came across a few old KB's on it where other progs were to blame, but are not applicable.
I can live with it - and should be doing something more productive anyway !

I take it that no-one's been able to make the standard cd player connect to the internet cddb of choice?
Not like MS to make a really nice tool & ruin it with a minor short sighted design. :-(
I'd rather not clutter my pc with shareware just for playing music, but it's handy if it can download track titles.
