    Sidebar & gadgets have disappeared

Sidebar and gadgets on my computer have disappeared for no apparent reason. When I look at Program Files the Windows Sidebar folder is not there and on right clicking the desktop Gadgets no longer appear in the menu.

Any idea what may have caused this and how do I restore the sidebar please?

Hi dgudka, and welcome to the Lounge!

Look in Programs and Features>Turn Windows Features on or off and look for Windows Gadget Platform to confirm the check marked box. Tick the check box if it is empty and press OK to turn the feature back on. If that solves the problem, then someone turned off the feature if it was working before.

If no joy on the above, use System Restore to return your system to a point before you lost the Sidebar. You might want to run scans with your antimalware software and download MalwareBytes Antimalware Free Edition to use as a second opinion 'on demand' scan to rule out infections causing the problem.

You could also look in msconfig to see if it got unchecked there as well.
