    Notepad++

    Hello all,
    Thought that i would pass along a "tip" that i have been "fooling" with for a while, that has made my life simpler...Two things actually.

    1.Notepad++ (i think better than "notepad" or WordPad") Notepad++

    2.This is the "make my life simpler one" Make a folder,and name it whatever your PC name is ....i like "Your PC name Log"

    3.Open "Notepad++, and now input into the new "Log" what are the day to day (for me the dumb things that i try) events regarding you PC... EX: you find some crazy named folder that your not sure what it's about ...So move it and record the where and when and why. Now at least i have a record of things and helps me keep things straight...PC wise that is...no help for me otherwise. Regards Fred

    +1 on Notepad++, it is one of the first things I install on a new system.

    +1 on taking notes on what you are doing, though I have a Word template that I use for that (special formatting for common line input/output, code, etc). With a Word document I can also include screen captures. And I keep the document in my Word jump list (you can do the same for the PC log with Notepad++)

    Fred,

    I keep an Excel workbook to keep track of all installed software, registry changes, UI customizations, etc. Really comes in handy when I have to revert to an Image that is a couple of days/weeks old and need to catch up.
