Item right ckick menu missing (outlook 2000)

The right click on any ITEM in the right hand window shows a quick spin of the egg timer but no menu pops up
eg rt clk a contact - nothing
rt click an email - nothing
The rt click in the window itself is ok - eg to customise views etc
I've tried outlook repair + uninstall - reinstall office but problem remains
    (Off 2000 sp1 on win2k)
Cannot find solution in MS & no-one I ask has heard of this
    Thanks for any help

Try closing Outlook and temporarily renaming the file outcmd.dat to outcmd.dat.old. Outlook will make a new one. (Since it could be in different places on different installs, use Start, Search, Files or folders to find it.) This file stores menu and toolbar customizations, and apparently it not infrequently gets corrupted.

Thanks for the suggestion - tried but it made no difference other than me losing my customisations as expected. I've reverted to my origonal dat
An added trick I've found it's got up its sleeve! If I select more than 1 item (say 2 or 3 emails) and rt click them - up pops the shortcut menu!. But it still refuses to show its face if only one item is selected! Any other offers?!
