Question Does Win7 have a fast restart?

Today, Tuesday June 28, 2011, I installed 3 Win7 updates (2 critical) and one Office 2007 recommended update. A restart was necessary to implement the changes. I clicked restart, and bingo, the computer did NOT go through a normal restart (did not step its way through the BIOS and dual boot screens). Win7 came right back immediately, almost like a user logoff then back to the logon screen (the dialog selection was restart, not logoff).

Did I imagine this or is there a fast restart option (something under the covers)?

I did not see this at all. After installing Office 2010 SP1 the restart was the expected restart after an update. Once Win 7 was up again there were 3 additional updates that also included the expected restart sequence. I would suspect in your case something might have been amiss. It might be a good idea to uninstall these 3 updates through View installed updates (Control Panel, Programs and Features) then reinstall.

I think the updates are all coincidental as they are all for Windows 7 and none appear to have anything to do with Office.
