    Issues in deleting the footer

    Hi,

I am facing issues while deleting content from the footer of a Word document. You can change the extension of the file (attached) to .xml to open it using the word document. Even though there is nothing visible in the footer of the document after deleting the content, when you open the document using the notepad (.txt), you can still see the footer data which has already been deleted from the document. You can search for the word "clause" or "25.10" in the content to locate the footer Version 25.10 which used to exist in the document. I need to know the reason as we need to replace the footer with some other content using an application which cannot be done till the time we delete the content that was there in the document earlier. I am attaching the document for your reference.

Looking forward to your response. Thanks in advance.

    Regards,

Your example document is not set to show either the "Different First Page" or "Different Odd & Even Pages".

If you add a couple of page breaks to the document and change the page setup to include both those types of headers and footers then you will discover the footer information you are looking for. Once you get rid of that, you can remove the special page setups and page breaks which revealed them.

Thank you so much for your help on this. It is working now.
If you could also elaborate on why does this happen as this is just a one page document. Why manually deleting the footer without changing the settings does not work?

Every section of a document has three headers and footers. If you don't display all three possible variants then you can't be sure of their contents.

When you manually deleted the footer you only did that to one of the three possible footers that were contained in your document. Setting the page layout options and adding pages to your document allowed you to see the other header/footer contents.
