Question Excel 2007 - date formatting won't "stick"

We've got a user in Merchandising who sent in the following ticket:

using a shared worksheet and it has removed the formating for the dates on just my computer. All other computers are showing it correctly. when i go to change the format on this it will not allow me to change it. have saved it, closed out, restarted my computer, saved it as a different file .. nothing is working.

I checked the file and saw that it had no security on it; it's shared in the sense it's on a file server and used within the department. My thought there was some sort of lock and I was going to recommend a reboot, but saw she had tried that.

Any ideas I can give her?

Has it been set up as a Shared Workbook in Excel?

Yes. The title bar also shows it as "Shared".

Figures. Shared workbooks are an abomination.
I'd suggest unsharing it, save, close and reopen and then reshare it (if you really must) and see if that helps.

Got an answer from the user:
My show formulas button was shut off.
    All is well now.

    (Gotta love users)

My comments about Shared Workbooks stand though. There are only two kinds: those that are corrupt, and ones that haven't corrupted yet.
