    Copying large files is SLOW

Using WHS 1 in some older hardware (Pent 4, 2 GHz, 1 Gig RAM) copying large video files can be slow. I can't tell if it's in the WD hard drives (blue & green Caviar), the USB HD unit (WD My Passport), or the system board. My network is gigabit and usually works well. Sometimes copying from drive to drive is fast and at other times it starts fast but then slows to a CRAWL. What is causing that?

What are the specs on the WHS drives?

If the files are originally on the USB drive it will be fairly slow as it is USB2.

Do you know what NIC is in the WHS machine? If it is old enough it may not be a gigabit NIC.

Also, if you can you should add RAM to the WHS machine.

    Thank you

Thanks for the ideas. The drives are recent purchases as are the NICs. I will try to add memory to the server.
