    Browser doesn't recognise broadband connection

OK... Here's the problem... it has me confused to say the least!
Machine is laptop with Vista. It is usually used on dial up.
(Live in the country and can't get Broadband)

However, every now and then I take it to a friend with BB to update it.
But IE or Firefox won't connect to a website. Computer will d/load emails,
    virus definitions etc.

It is set for "use dial up if another connection is not available",

but IE8 or Firefox is not recognising BB connection, and tries to
start dial up connection. can anyone shed some light on this please??

Try opening Internet Options, Connection tab, click on Setup and go through the steps. See if this helps.

When that happens, just change IE settings never to use dial up and see if that helps.
