All boxes grayed out, can't read

Sorry if I'm not in the right subject but I'm not sure where to post. Every small box that comes up to take an action, e.g., OK, submit, remove -- every one -- is grayed out and I can't read it. I've attached a Word doc showing the problem. I've gone into Metrics many times to see if changing the font color, for example, would fix it, with no success. I don't know if these little boxes are menu or message boxes, or what. I can't remember if this started when I installed Word 2010 a while back or if it's a Windows 7 problem. Thanks very much for any ideas you all may have. ec

I took the liberty to attach the image in ellenc's Word 2010 doc.
However, I'm confused by this issue. The example doesn't look like anything in Word 2010 I've seen.
You mention "Metrics." Is that another application?
All I can assume at this point is that the greyed-out buttons are that way because, in the current context, those options don't apply.
    More information needed, please.

Hi Reid, I know this is off topic, apologies to ellenc, but how do you attach an image like you did. My original way is shown in my .pdf, just found another method but result is the same.

No problem. Not sure if you're asking how I got her image or how I attached it to this forum.
I opened her Word doc, then used a screen capture utility to grab just the pertinent part of the file. I personally use SnagIt, but would use PicPick if I didn't have that. Then I simply saved my tiny little screen shot as a .JPG, then used "Manage Attachments" to upload the file. That's it! Hope this helps.

Ahh, I see. The only difference is that in Advanced editor mode, I scroll down and use the "Manage Attachments" button versus the paperclip in the formatting bar. I just attached two more screen shots using Manage Attachments.

I see, said the blind man. You must be on the Advanced Editor, I'm on Standard. I also found I could post an image from the quick reply box, 3rd from the right shows 'Image' by hovering cursor on it.

    Hello,

I can read the boxes although it could be easier. I don't recognize any of them from Word 2010, though. What were you trying to do when you saw the boxes?

    Can't read grayed boxes

I'm attaching a new screen shot of the problem in PDF. I metioned "Metrics" in my original post. That's another name for "Change window colors and metrics" in Control Panel/Personalization. I've checked the settings in that so see if any boxes or fonts are set for gray background and white font, which is how all boxes appear and I can't read them.
As said before, I can't imagine what is causing this, if it's Word or Windows. I wonder if it could be a browser/internet problem. I appreciate all your replies very much. Hope this new attachment helps. ellen

Have you tried selecting another THEME? Themes are a collection of settings like this. I would try choosing the "Windows 7 Basic" (or Windows Vista Basic) theme. Does this fix the problem?
