Windows Server 2005 SP4 offered to Windows 2003 server

WindowsAutomatic Updates has offered our Win2003 server "Windows INternal Database Service Pack 4(KB2463332). Everything I can find lists this as a Win2005 SP4. Is there any good reason to apply this to our W2k3 server? Bill

It is the stripped down version of SQL Server. In general, I think it is a good idea to install service packs on software as old as SQL Server 2005. It was written back when Microsoft had barely started on it everything must be developed using the Security Development Lifecycle.

You are using the Windows Internal Database for some application. If you can identify the application you'll have to decide on your own if the service pack is really needed.

If you have WSUS installed it will use SQL Express (Windows Internal Database). Lots of software that uses a database also installs SQL Express. Look for a service called MSSQL....

    cheers, Paul
