    Shut down hang up

This just started yesterday. When I shut down my computer it hangs up on the "saving your settings" screen.
I haven't installed any new software recently so I don't know what is causing this. I have installed User Profile Hive Cleanup Service.
    Thanks for any help.

Have you added or changed any hardware?

Have you updated any drivers? Are your drivers up-to-date?

Does this happen after sleep or hibernation?

Have you used Task Manager to check the services to see if an application program is not shutting down?

If it just started, use System Restore to go back to Yesterday or before.

That's always your first line of defense against something messing up your PC.

You can also try the XP Clean Boot diagnostic procedure to determine what is causing the shutdown hang.

No new hardware or driver updates. I have always heard about drivers "if they ain't broke don't fix them" so I usually leave them alone. I was unable to do a system restore for some reason. I tried three different dates and the process wasn't completed.
I did, however, uninstall User Profile Hive Cleanup Service and it is shutting down now. Seems strange that uninstalling a program designed to help prevent shut down issues will solve a shut down issue.
