    Unformatted e-mails Outlook 2007 HELP

Both my Outlook 2007 and Win7 Home Premium (32 bits) are completely updated.
Recently, I started to receive all of my e-mails unformatted, a complete mess, full of links, what makes reading an e-mail almost impossible.
Also, if during a session I used and CLOSED Outlook, I am not being able to do an unattended shutdown of my laptop, as it keeps waiting for a forced closing of Outlook!

    What is wrong?

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Flores

Could be corruption or a virus. Run a scan, maybe an online one at Panda, then a repair installation of Office.

    cheers, Paul

    Hi Paul,

I used both my anti-virus (ESET NOD32) and your suggestion (PANDA). No virus was found.
I already did several repair installations using my original MS Office CD. The problem persists.
I have disabled all of my start-up programs (msconfig.exe). The same.
It must be a problem with my Win7 and I'm afraid I'll have to format my HD !!!!!

    Thanks,
    Flores

If you open the messages in a browser, do they display properly?

Outlook 2007 uses Word as the engine to display HTML messages. Word is not the greatest piece of software to do that, so using a browser may be an alternative. This link explains how you can open a message in a browser: http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/openinbrowser.htm

My idea is to check whether that fixes the display. If it does, you know Word is the cause of your problems. If not, then you will know you have to search for another cause and it further investigation can determine whether it is happening at the email server or in your pc.

    Regards

The Word 2007 HTML rendering engine is limited in what it supports compared to a browser. See What really happened with HTML & CSS in Outlook 2007. The article also links to two MSDN articles which go into more detail - Word 2007 HTML & CSS in Outlook Part 1 & Word 2007 HTML & CSS in Outlook Part 2.

    Hello Rui,

I did as you instructed me to do, but the problem still persists.
I run the macro on unformatted e-mails and they opened in IE9 still unformatted.
Yes, the problem is somewhere else.
Probably I will have to format my HD, but this will be an Herculean task.
Rui, I thank you very much for the time you spent trying to help me.

    Hi Flores,

Do you have access to one of your email accounts through a browser? I am thinking of hotmail, gmail or even some ISP provided email account, which quite often have web browser based access?

Again, the idea is to determine whether the problem shows with this client too.

Another possibility would be to try and install another client, such as Windows Live Mail, even just for test purposes, to see if the messages show up properly there.
Formatting the disk and starting over is something I really strive to avoid. I know there are advantages, but just adding all apps I need is work for a couple days.

    Hello Rui,

Outlook is my main e-mail app, but I use Gmail also.
I will try an experience with WLMail as per your suggestion.
Formatting my HD will take more than a couple of days, but in the end I will be forced to format.

    Thanks again Rui

Check to see if somehow the option to read all email as text has been set - See read email messages in plain text for details.

When you close Outlook wait a few seconds and then start Task Manager to see if Outlook is still running. If Outlook is still running most likely it is waiting for some addin to close. Try running Outlook with addins disabled.

    Hello JoeP517,

You gave me some hope, but no, the "read all mail as text" option is unchecked.
As I have several add-ins, I unchecked most of them, but still if I use Outlook I have to force its closing during a complete shutdown.

    Many thanks,
    Flores
